“If I were to sit down and get granular with the problematic tropes found in 80s teen movies, my face would frown so hard it would collapse on itself like a dang neutron star.”

We’re watching The Fly (1986) and I’m so angry at Jeff Goldblum’s Seth Brundle this time around.
He’s a creepy-ass incel who gets upset because the woman he just met and has slept with once leaves his apartment/lab to go tell off her former boyfriend/editor and he pouts and makes assumptions and gets drunk and does something incredibly stupid.
Veronica never should have given him the time of day and it’s inexplicable why she was ever attracted to him in the first place, but the chemistry probably works to the extent that it did because Geena Davis and Jeff Goldblum were dating at the time.
I’ve seen this before (in college) but I’m so annoyed with the whole thing now.
He gets violent and impulsive when he becomes merged with the fly, but he was hardly a great person before that happened.
