Here is what I am done with
And I seriously mean DONE .
The idea that I am somehow a hypocrite or “just as bad” for not showing tolerance to the intolerant and hateful members of our society.
Look, I get there’s a illusory paradox within that logic because those who are intolerant are similarly self-righteous. However, this is not about some ideas race to the moral high ground, these issues are not, have never been, and will never be subjective.
NO ONE is inferior because of their race, gender, sexual orientation, disability, social class, etc etc etc. – that is objective, scientifically-supported truth. Anything to the contrary is fear-fueled bullshit arbitrarily created to support power hierarchies.
Furthermore, the freedoms we enjoy are not a byproduct of some collective enlightenment. Every single one is hard earned and blood stained. This hippy nonsense that we can just hug it out with those who work to dismantle human progress is nothing more than privilege, blindness at best, and buying into the deliberate propaganda that seeks to dismantle social movements, at worst. Take away the rose-colored revisionist history that teaches us passive action is the only mechanism to freedom and equality and you see that the greatest human rights victories were far from peaceful.
Most importantly, I do not owe any grown ass adult patience for opinions, ideas, and actions that victimize innocent people. If the Colorado PP shooting showed us anything it’s that even with indisputable causation, people will choose self-preservation, willful ignorance, and hatred over personal responsibility and we don’t have time for that shit.
There are very real, very tragic consequences to hate speech and bigotry, and putting the onus on the proponent to magically see the error of their ways is absurdly ineffective. We as a society need to say “NO MORE” and shut those fuckers down because at the end of the day respecting their bullshit/feelings/beliefs is not more important than protecting the innocent by subverting the intolerant’s predilection toward violence.
So nope, not a hypocrite, not “just as bad,” just unwilling to have my compassion exploited by those who do not deserve it and I am not going to feel bad about that. No one should ever turn the other cheek and get beat.
