christmas for children should be colourful, for adults, elegant

So many of you know
by now
about the epic,
decades-spanning holiday feud between my father and I,
where I put up my very aesthetic silver and white Christmas decor (like glistening snow).

And he then sneaks in vulgar red ornaments
because he prefers the crude,
trashiness of clashing, bright colours (like a heathen).

So I take them
off the tree,
he puts them back on,
I take them off,
he puts them on.

Round and round we go
through the entire holidays
without ever saying a word to one another about it.

Here we are again with this fucking red glitter and gold ornament.

How. Dare. He.
