We’re in the bay for Clusterfest this weekend and I popped over to check out night one to catch the Sarah Silverman and friends set.
There’s a great bit in Mel Brooks’ History of the World Part I where, in Roman times, there’s a bazaar of different prophets and heretics and goofballs and Mel himself takes to a soapbox as a self-described “stand-up philosopher.”
Now, how much of that was intentionally a tossed off joke meant to map a modern role onto an ancient one is beyond the scope of what I’m up to here but there’s still a lot of truth inside it.
Stand-up comics can help us sort out and make sense of truths too uncomfortable to just square up on.
And right now that’s exactly what we need. I think anyway. It certainly helped me.
Also I’ve had a lot of drinks.
Ok bye.
