Aside from this (below) being the perfect rant about … let’s call them, energetic fans of Star Wars … it made me realize these complaints are just a classic example of usually non-creative types of people being upset at something they don’t have any other point of reference for.
They also don’t like change.
If you ask anyone around you RIGHT now,
“What is the first classic Greek tale or a term used by, oh, I dunno, Joseph Campbell(an academic)?”
in any form, and they pull up something as base level as the story of Medusa or the movie for the story of Jason and the Argonauts, while they’re not wrong, what they’d be demonstrating a surface-level-understanding of a subject MOST people are near completely unaware of, and one that others are WELL LEARN-ED in.
Another surface-level-understanding example is how someone likes a joke reference on Family Guy but has never seen the actual movie or character from history in its original context that it references, but the joke still lands … everyone can be a FAN of a story told and not NEED to know its source materials or origin (because after all, NOTHING IS UNIQUE) in order to ENJOY it … but you’re a real surface level human if you don’t bother to put in the effort to understand it WHILE you complain about it — someone’s deep level of research and understanding that they’ve put into their work … work that shows, to the rest of us who have.
And THAT’S why the MCU is real cinema.
