Mel Brooks turned 94 on Sunday and spent it with his lifelong friend, Carl Reiner.
Carl died the next day.
I’m pretty choked up over this. A friendship that spanned 70 years. They couldn’t hang out as much recently because of coronavirus so they’d still call each other every night and watch Jeopardy over the phone. They got to spend time together in person on Sunday for Mel’s birthday. I can’t help but think Carl hung on to see his friend one last time.
One last birthday celebration and then he passed away the next day.
This new tweet replaces my daily one about the 2600 displaced children who were separated from their parents by our President. I will retweet this until the remaining 700 children are reunited with their families.

98 is a great run, but these are the kind of people you wish could live forever.
