Never ever buy a car with an INTERNAL WATER PUMP because when it fails it leaks by the alternator so you don’t even know it’s going and then it causes fucking CATASTROPHIC engine failure.
Water pumps go, especially the bearings, it’s a routine fix like breaks, clutches, hoses, etc – a normal part of engine wear and tear but this THIS is bad engineering on every fucking level.
Here’s what I have to deal with and attempt to fix because of this bullshit ass design:
The single bearing (yep ONE bearing in this pump) wore out leading to the water pump shaft to jam into the cam chain tensioner and lock it, snapping the timing chain. The cam, of course, got out of sync with the crank shaft and caused the valves to stay open on the number six cylinder and because the piston was still moving it slammed into the valve and blew a hole into the piston, probably bent the valve and valve guide and may have damaged the cylinder head (to be discovered …)
(The water pump is circled—the actual dumbest placement in engineering history and here’s the broken chain)
SO GREAT.
