Throughout adolescence,
my sketchbooks were filled with superheroines.
Tank girls,
girls with guns … Women in their power.
Later,
my sense of power became subtler,
I developed an aesthetic style that emphasizes and exaggerates what I find strong and beautiful instead.
But still,
I like the symbolism of a weapon-wielding woman.
If it’s in her hands,
there’s something sacred to be protected.
It’s not likely a power trip
or means of control.
I always say,
if y’all won’t protect us, we’ll protect ourselves.
Here’s a few gals looking damn cute doing it.
