In the past cou­ple weeks, two sep­a­rate peo­ple said they think of me as “fear­less.”

They’re right and wrong.
 

I’ve done some bold shit.

Fought in a tele­vised kick­box­ing match,

de­fend­ed my work on a na­tion­al stage against se­nior au­thor­i­ties,

loved peo­ple that oth­ers said were “dan­ger­ous,”

fol­lowed my in­stincts against all ad­vice and warn­ings —
 

I fear no one and noth­ing —

ex­cept my own mind.
 

I’ve had to learn since child­hood how to stay reg­u­lat­ed in my own wak­ing con­scious­ness.

I’ve spent some stretch­es of time so dis­reg­u­lat­ed that I fear wak­ing up in the morn­ing.

I know re­sis­tance in­ti­mate­ly.
 

I am not fear­less.

I just un­der­stand my as­sign­ments …
 

and that gives me some­thing to smile about.
