Low En­er­gy Trump is hav­ing a press­er right now. His at­ti­tude be­trays his words.

Not a lot of brava­do to go along with what he’s fram­ing as a win, which is odd since the man is al­most all brava­do, all the time.

And your racist rel­a­tives ap­plaud be­cause every­one knows the real racism is re­mind­ing white men that they be­have in a racist way.

And QAnon be freakin out yo.

 

It’s Smart peo­ple. Bet­ter than dumb peo­ple, generally.

And no, ‘com­mon sense’ isn’t re­al­ly much of a thing to crow about but good for you keep­ing your­self from catch­ing on fire I guess. That takes some kind of smarts.

And Texas moved for­ward last night in a num­ber of ways. Look to the next one and keep going.

It may not feel like it,
it may not look like it,
but huge huge strides were made last night, even in the red­dest ar­eas of our country. 

We made De­mo­c­ra­t­ic can­di­dates both palat­able and com­pet­i­tive (very com­pet­i­tive) in a num­ber of places where that would have been un­think­able just two years ago. We put a his­toric num­ber of women in the House and not just women but women of col­or. We struck vi­tal blows for ex­pand­ed vot­ing rights and against gerrymandering.

We may have tricked our­selves into be­liev­ing a sta­tis­ti­cal­ly im­pos­si­ble blue tsuna­mi was com­ing, but to give up hope now would be a huge mis­take that would throw away hard won gains and play di­rect­ly into the hands of the fas­cist wingnuts we are fight­ing against. 

As odi­ous as the mod­ern Trump­ist re­pub­li­can par­ty is (and vol­umes could be writ­ten on that very top­ic) they know how to play the long game and not get rat­tled (of­ten by for­mal­i­ties like ‘is this can­di­date a crim­i­nal and or ped­erast?’) and they stay the course. 

That is what we need from you.

It may seem Sisyphean and I get that, but you guys are turn­ing your cities and states pur­ple at a rate that’s forc­ing your op­po­nents to cheat more brazen­ly just to con­tain it.

That is frus­trat­ing to be sure, but it’s also con­fir­ma­tion that you’re land­ing body blows.

There are lots of sil­ver lin­ings to be found in last night’s re­sults and every sin­gle one of them points the way to 2020.

We have stopped the mo­men­tum of Trump­ism. Now is the time to counter it with our own. Don’t give up.
