“I could fire everybody right now.”
—President Embarrassing Disgrace, beloved by all the worst people you’ve ever met
Sessions is out. Here’s where the fun begins.
Low Energy Trump is having a presser right now. His attitude betrays his words.
Not a lot of bravado to go along with what he’s framing as a win, which is odd since the man is almost all bravado, all the time.
And your racist relatives applaud because everyone knows the real racism is reminding white men that they behave in a racist way.
And QAnon be freakin out yo.
It’s Smart people. Better than dumb people, generally.
And no, ‘common sense’ isn’t really much of a thing to crow about but good for you keeping yourself from catching on fire I guess. That takes some kind of smarts.
And Texas moved forward last night in a number of ways. Look to the next one and keep going.
It may not feel like it,
it may not look like it,
but huge huge strides were made last night, even in the reddest areas of our country.
We made Democratic candidates both palatable and competitive (very competitive) in a number of places where that would have been unthinkable just two years ago. We put a historic number of women in the House and not just women but women of color. We struck vital blows for expanded voting rights and against gerrymandering.
We may have tricked ourselves into believing a statistically impossible blue tsunami was coming, but to give up hope now would be a huge mistake that would throw away hard won gains and play directly into the hands of the fascist wingnuts we are fighting against.
As odious as the modern Trumpist republican party is (and volumes could be written on that very topic) they know how to play the long game and not get rattled (often by formalities like ‘is this candidate a criminal and or pederast?’) and they stay the course.
That is what we need from you.
It may seem Sisyphean and I get that, but you guys are turning your cities and states purple at a rate that’s forcing your opponents to cheat more brazenly just to contain it.
That is frustrating to be sure, but it’s also confirmation that you’re landing body blows.
There are lots of silver linings to be found in last night’s results and every single one of them points the way to 2020.
We have stopped the momentum of Trumpism. Now is the time to counter it with our own. Don’t give up.
