‘If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the pearly gates? Oh, you know something? I’m so far away from believing that it exists, and the only thing I know are jokes about it.’
—Donald Sutherland (1935–2024)
The first thing I can remember ever seeing Donald Sutherland in was Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1992).
Later, as an adult, I’d realize he took that role long after establishing himself as a respected actor, which is think is great.
He never took himself too seriously and no matter what picture you see of him, he seems to always have a twinkle in his eye.
For me he is now most memorable in Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978).
He was a Companion of the Order of Canada and was also on the NSA watchlist in the early seventies for his anti-war activity.
Rest in peace.
