Some days, the blue sits kindly on the surface, nothing more than a small glimmer on the horizon. Other days, it sinks deeper into the depths of the lake – and brings me with it.

And like the tides, I am pulled back and forth by forces that are not my own. Constantly battered by something I cannot see but have come to understand it through patterns.

I am not always ready for the high or low tide when it comes, so I try my best to keep a waterproof pack with revisions — and flippers. Because whether I am diving into the depths of blue, or strolling the beach for shiny things, I try my best to enjoy every stride.

This year hasn’t been easy for any of us, but for some of us, it doesn’t even compare to the worst years that we have lived.
