*proceeds to explain their misunderstanding of the issue*

“Right, but … ”
*gently and politely corrects them, showing them proof from various sources*
person:
“But it doesn’t say that though.”
me:
*blinks*
“That’s … yes it does … ”
*reads it word for word*
person:
“But how?”
me:
*explains it again, this time pointing to the words and citations on my screen*
person:
“But it doesn’t actually SAY you CAN do that.”
me:
“It literally says exactly that. ‘You can do x.’ Right there.”
person:
“OH. Okay. But the other form doesn’t say that, I just looked.”
me:
“It doesn’t?”
*opens the other form*
“Yeah it does.”
*points it out on this form now too*
person:
“But it doesn’t actually … ”
