John Cusack,
Bill Murray,
Hank Azaria,
Susan Sarandon,
Phillip Baker Hall,
John Turturro,
Tenacious D,
Jack Black,
Emily Watson,
Paul Giamatti and so many more in a movie about the government’s WPA Federal Theatre Project in the 1930s, the Great Depression, encroaching fascism, (silly but valid at the time) fears of communism, impending world war, modern art, Frida and Diego, the transactional and compromising nature of commerce and what it touches and it’s a true story no less.
Damn this is a great movie.
It was one the first films I saw at The Crest Sacramento after moving here back in 99.
I was voraciously reading about the American labor struggle and Zinn and Chomsky and the usual suspects and this was square in my new wheels house at that time.
And it’s just a really good time as well.
William Burg was probably there too but very few were so maybe not.
Also
this California lad by way of Nebraska was rooting for the Chiefs this weekend cuz I knew it would drive the MAGA idiots nuts —
and
KC during this time of year is cold and sad and they really deserved a party.
