We knew last year that Trump was like this.
He did an abysmal job of pretending to care when he gritted his teeth and forced himself to endure ‘helping’ the Louisiana flood victims just so he could use it as a photo-op.
It was obvious the man was miserable and would rather have been anywhere else, but he was still only a candidate for the presidency, and not the president.
I remember seeing that go down and discussing it with other people:
Can you imagine him having to do that for real? Bad things inevitably happen in the time span of four years. A president is supposed to respond and show up to help, and he’ll hate every minute of it. But he won’t do it if he doesn’t have to, anyway. He won’t care. He only cares about himself.
Some people thought,
No no, that can’t happen, he’ll have to step up and assume the role and do what he needs to do …
We’ve all learned that the president doesn’t actually have to do anything.
It’s been kind of surreal to watch.
He really, really doesn’t have to do a damn thing just because he’s The President of the United States. As it turns out, it does still take some modicum of decency and interest in doing the right thing in order to do it. And he has absolutely none.
But, we knew that.
