Today I woke
with a rain cloud
inhabiting my chest,
brewing a storm
to be feared
by inexperienced travelers
but to be braved
by the likes of Odysseus
Lonely
is waking
drenched in sweat
reaching in the dark
for the side of the bed
that once held another human
but is now piled with pillows and sweets
Terrifying
is the moment
a few months later
when you wake again,
reaching into emptiness.
Absorbed by fear as you realize
there is a peacefully sleeping human
where the stacks of books used to reside
Your heart pounds
like the beat of a warrior drum
as you sit in the dark
and stare longingly
at this foreign shape
Thankful,
for the cure
to your loneliness.
But careful,
not to wake them
in the presence
of your demons
The water in the tub
Is filled to the brim
Not sure if I meant to bathe
Or meant to swim
