I’ve never understood people who hold another’s friendship hostage based on political leanings or social views.
I also wouldn’t want a group of diverse people who all think the same. That’s as boring as fuck.
What’s the point of a social circle jerk if you don’t have a few different hands in the mix?
My gal made a great reference to a place she used to work at that prided themselves on diversity.
She said that indeed everyone there were from all different backgrounds and ethnic groups, but outside of that they all had the same mentality and acted the same. It essentially was a bag of the same shit, but in assorted colours.
I can definitely see how it affects people, but I’ve found those kinds of people generally to be lackluster. At least in my opinion. Your politics or social views shouldn’t effect how you treat friends, and it definitely shouldn’t be used to conform to hers to a particular viewpoint under fear of being cast away.
To me friendship is beyond that, it is how people interact and appreciate the company of each other. As I get older, there has been so many people I’ve come across who are petty and fake. Even their politics are fake.
Maybe it’s just the curmudgeon in me speaking, but I find myself having less patience for those who look at things just on the surface.
Time is indeed precious. I like people who like the individuality in others.
