Amer­i­cans are fas­ci­nat­ing­ly unique in that they are ex­pert­ly se­lec­tive when de­cid­ing what will and won’t hap­pen to them.

Ig­nor­ing all data dri­ven sta­tis­tics and facts,
they’re con­vinced they will be­come rich,
and they won’t catch Covid-19,
even though the op­po­site sce­nario is in­fi­nite­ly more like­ly to hap­pen.

Also, bad things only hap­pen to bad peo­ple,
think pos­i­tive­ly,
good vibes,
don’t wor­ry about it,
live laugh love,
blah blah blah.

We re­al­ly are a “Chris­t­ian na­tion” in the sense that we firm­ly be­lieve in the im­pos­si­ble and we scoff at the prob­a­ble.
