Cruise night!
It’s an American tradition
That belongs to anyone who loves competition
Some day I’m going to write a long form essay about films like
Thank God its Friday (1978)
Van Nuys Blvd (1979)
and Skatetown USA (1979).
Because I believe these B level pictures are more accurate portrayals of their time’s idiosyncrasies and sensibilities than the more respectable stuff of their era.
Why do I think this?
Because a cheaper, faster shoot means you pick up all the stuff that would get sanded-off by a more ‘legitimate’ production’s longer production time and need for certain facets of timelessness.
Anyhoo, I think there’s something here worth writing about.
Making today more of an occasion than just Friday.
