“If it becomes widespread, cellular agriculture could have several advantages over traditional animal agriculture … no chickens would be involved at all.”
—Adele Peters, on lab-grown meat
“Dozens of firms are developing cultivated chicken, beef and pork, with a view to slashing the impact of industrial livestock production on the climate and nature crises, as well as providing cleaner, drug-free and cruelty-free meat. Currently, about 130 million chickens are slaughtered every day for meat, and 4 million pigs. By weight, 60% of the mammals on earth are livestock, 36% are humans and only 4% are wild.”
—Damian Carrington, The Guardian
“The company, Eat Just, is based in San Francisco and describes its product as ‘real, high-quality meat created directly from animal cells for safe human consumption.’”
—Mike Ives, NYT
I am rethinking much of my diet again. Baby steps towards mor compassionate eating.
Totally boycotting takoyaki. Otherwise known as “octopus balls.” It’s officially off the menu for me, along with octopus in any edible form. I don’t know if you have ever looked into the eyes of an octopus, there is intelligence within.
I feel like I must embrace compassionate dining as well as consuming foods prepared simpler. And there are reasons for this, not just another willy-nilly decision du jour; I am really feeling damaged by all the shit the past four years has produced.
My faith in 30% of the country is shaken – which is still a better number than wat it’s been for so long.
Are we still above compassion? Above science? Above Truth itself? And do we even believe wat’s in the food supply??
Tho right now I’m trying to figure out strawberry icing for a strawberry cookie.
I need a freeze-drier. Several leads, but methinks rival companies drop shittalk on each other’s reviews. ’Cause it’s like either “Five stars, it blew me, and delivered a pizza,” or “If I could rate this worse than one star, I’d have to say it was like getting raped at your chemo treatment after your mom’s funeral, but I’d also have to back the car over my own child to make it worth buying this crap.”
The search continues …
