Sometimes I wonder what Bernie is feeling.
He spent his whole career fighting against the Washington behemoth, mostly alone and relatively unknown to mainstream America, then during a Presidential campaign that was predicted to stay mostly on the fringe, suddenly he’s speaking to crowds of easily 30,000 people.
That must feel great after a lifetime of hard work – not only be recognized and heard on the national stage, but to really have people love your message.
I’ve been saying for years the difference between the modern Left and the New Left of the 60s is leadership.
We needed leadership to organize and mobilize all of us. That’s what works. With Bernie and people like Deray McKesson, Ta-Nehisi Coates, and Elizabeth Warren we are finally seeing the rise of leadership.
Hopefully though, they don’t share the same fate as the New Left leadership.
