‘What is this FLOMM thing?’ —a question I get a lot
I usually direct people to the FLOMM IS page, which was originally designed to promote our art history game. And it’s just confusing enough to still throw people. By design, of course. FLOMM is an art project tied to other (and all) forms of media; and as with any art project, where it goes will reveal itself in time.
Or not. (that’s the beauty of art)
RIGHT NOW
The whole FLOMM thing has become a contemporary art movement based on education and art history –
This is the starting point for everything FLOMM and all our media endeavors going forward. This includes our game – which is being updated this year by the incredible Marco Vasquez to run on multiple devices, not just iPhone 6.
The NEO FLOMMISTS have stepped up – challenging the idea that this is a faux movement, turning it into something real. All have something to say, and incredible work to show.
OUR BLOGS (FLoggs?)
Media in the U.S. is on the defensive (see video above) and originally DER TUNG was where I was going to write about the FLOMM game.
But interest in doing something MOR led us to what we’re doing right now. The constant flow of NEO FLOMMIST writings allows us to post nü content (mostly) daily.
Invite a friend – and if you don’t like what we’re writing, say something. we have DISQUS at the bottom of each post for a reason. FLOMM respects the rights of individuals to have opinions. SHOW IT, say something. We ARE acting out – it does say ‘angry modern artists’ all over our stuff.
Our tumblr blogs are still going:
PROTO AVANT ALTRO (organized by colour) showcases nü and olde art from around the world – and FLOMMISCHEN is music + MOR, with kabarett, jazz and symphonic works on the weekend –
And our SPOTIFY playlists still go live EVERY MONDAY – selected by Kristin Valentine Buechler and myself.
AND
we have a few things in planning for this year:
THE FLOMM PODCAST
Alley Scheffki has been piecing this together for a few months now – and it looks like with the help of MILK, the launch will be in late February.
THE FLOMMCAST will be hosted by Alley once a week and cover topics that DER TUNG is only hinting at. And like everything we’ve been doing, the show will be uncensored and nothing will be off limits.
AND Alley’s in Paris as I write this cause she ‘needs inspiration.’
4.23 CONTINUED
Our grassroots art/educational event – held last year on 4.23 in Stockton, California – worked so well, we’re floating ideas for what’s next.
We were inspired by local event ART HOTEL and their upcoming ART STREET (opens this Friday) – we’re going to see what sort of vibe we can get going again.
SHORT EXPERIMENTAL FILM
FLOMM’s Chelsea Davis has some new music in the works and with inspiration from Grimes X HANA AC¡D Reign Chronicles – SEVEN videos shot in 2 weeks (and edited on a Macintosh) – I am currently shooting something that is a visual nod to the work of Serge Diaghilev and the Ballets Russes, the experimental film work of Man Ray, a bunch of the other DADAists, and Hannah Höch.
Involved are flommists Felicia Ren Czwakiel, Kristin Valentine Buechler, Betty Nelsen, Kylie Jackson, Jason Spyres, Juan Sarmiento, Nathan Schemel, Thomas Fritschi, Erin Dirschel, Crystal Dahm, Chrystal Shamp, and a few others.
KABARETT FLOMM: DIE FLOMMUS REVUE
NOW is the perfect time to resurrect the ART FORM of Berlin in the 1920s: Kabarett. THIS documentary explains what Kabarett was and how it was a powerful force for satire and ridicule of the powers that be:
We’ve been talking to a bunch of local performance groups: SacCirque (which was co-formed by one of our first flommists), The Darling Clementines, Blacktop Comedy as well as getting advice from the now-retired Dutch Falconi, Jane in NYC; plus, Bwargh, Kristin, Rikki, Jes, Alley, Courtney, Chelsea, Jamie, Rebecca, Brin – GODS, it’s a LONG LIST – which includes plans for some Dark Cabaret surprises –
A concert film of our Kabarett will be part of this – shot the way SNL operates by filmmaker Cody Martin –
Because FLOMM is not going out without a MASSIVE BANG before we’re round up for the camps. Not even close.
AND
if you like what we’re doing, please drop a few bucks in our PATREON account. So far all of this is financed by whatever we can get our hands on – a few bucks here and there will remind us what we’re doing is worth it.
