So you missed the revolution you got invited to and that (if we’re being completely honest) you weren’t all that psyched for.
Now you get to make your own.
You know all that 60s ephemeral gauzy heroic defiant counterculture stuff of legend and terrible Robert Zemeckis films? Well it turns out there are as many if not more of you kids than there were of them. And you can make a counterculture and revolution that’s *totally yours* with no thoughts of the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s or aughts.
One that isn’t beholden to old parts or contextualized within accepted modes of sanitized subversion. The playing field is wide the fuck open right now. You *can* thrust yourselves into the vacuum and blow it up.
Or at least I hope you can.
In the late 60s, rock music (bear with me here and don’t doze off) was a kind of internet for young people. Old people didn’t like it and it was made so rapidly that it became a communicative tool for young people.
With other forms of media failing, maybe there’s some new cultural vessel. And no, I’m not saying make replica 60s rock. I mean get your head into that space and think what a new parallel communicative mode could be.
Doesn’t need to be music. Just something captivating and codified.
