older people saying, ‘grow up!’

As the youngest child in a de­cent­ly sized fam­i­ly, with nice gaps be­tween our births, I find it so fuck­ing hi­lar­i­ous hear­ing old­er peo­ple say,

“Grow up! [in­sert my opin­ion that is dif­fer­ent from yours].”

Be­cause when I think about it …

By the time the younger in­di­vid­ual is the old­er person’s age, the old­er per­son will still al­ways be old­er – and that old­er person’s point of view will al­ways be skewed and ir­ra­tional be­cause they lack what­ev­er con­nec­tion or ca­pac­i­ty to ac­cept their own pro­gres­sion.

Of course this the­o­ry as­sumes the old­er per­son isn’t DEAD from old age by the time the younger per­son is the old­er per­son­’s orig­i­nal age at the time of their very doc­u­ment­ed ‘grow up’ com­ment.

So, in my head, what the old­er per­son is re­al­ly say­ing is, “I WANT TO DIE.”

So yeah. Just keep that in mind.

If you are one of those old­er peo­ple us­ing that phrase as if bi­o­log­i­cal time­lines are more im­por­tant than in­tel­lec­tu­al and emo­tion­al pro­gres­sion I will lit­er­al­ly be­lieve you want to die.
