I grew up in the 1980s.
In the 80s nothing was gay. And the reason nothing was gay was because literally everything was gay.
To explain: It was a time when otherwise mildly homophobic straight men would wear pink Swatches and cutoff mesh half-shirts to Wham concerts, so lots of mixed signals whizzing around through the air.
Where I am going with this: I had no idea when I first saw Nightmare on Elm Street 2 (1984) that it was so uproariously outrageously campy. It was just in line with the spirit of the times. Apparently lots of people who worked on it had no idea either. It just came out in the wash that it was a barely-cryptic super-metaphorical horror flick about a teenage boy realizing there’s a man inside him.
At any rate, Elm Street 2 is a blast to watch and deserves a place on your Halloween watch-list, preferably in the company of a few friends and a few drinks.
Namaste.
