It’s #friday so you know what that means: Time for images of Phil Collins Photoshopped into Tom of Finland drawings!
And ya know what? Phil Phridays are officially now a thing!
As of right now Phil Phridays are in phull ephect!
I think the very first Phil track I ever heard was this cover (below) It’s the first one I remember loving. Generally covering a classic is a dumb idea but he makes a space to make this version his own.
The conventional wisdom is that video killed off all the dudes that weren’t pretty like Duran Duran and that’s *kinda* true but not entirely. Phil embraced it *hard* and turned his shortcomings into strengths.
Hell, he’s one of the few music artists in history that could just put his face and no words on a cover and have it work. His head was a logo.
I always get lumpy throat to this one so to lighten it a bit, here is a terrible video someone made for it.
Literally just heard this one for the first time 10 minutes ago. Love it. Brit class system stuff.
Never heard this either.
Dude can play with soul legends and hold his own even though he’s a little cockney eggman.
Plus he’s just an adorable little singing Bob Hoskins man!
So here guys
I’m now gonna post the lyrics to Phil Collins’ Don’t Lose My Number just in case if something happens to the Internet and if we need to get to them we will be able to.
Don’t Lose My Number
They came at night leaving fear behind
Shadows were on the ground
Nobody knew where to find him
No evidence was found
“I’m never coming back”
They heard him cry
And I believe him
Well he never meant to do anything wrong
It’s gonna get worse if he waits too long
Billy, Billy don’t you lose my number
Cos you’re not anywhere
That I can find you
Oh now Billy, Billy don’t you lose my number
Cos you’re not anywhere that I can find you, oh no
Searching through the day and into the night
They wouldn’t stop till they found him
They didn’t know him and they didn’t understand
They never asked him why
“Get out of my way”
They heard him shout
Then a blinding light
Ooh all I could see was him running down the street
Out of the shadows and into the night
Now Billy, Billy don’t you lose my number
Cos you’re not anywhere
That I can find you, oh
Now Billy, Billy don’t you lose my number
Cos you’re not anywhere that I can find you, oh
Don’t give up
Keep running, keep hiding
Don’t give up
Billy, if you know you’re right
Don’t give up
You know that I am on your side
Don’t give up
Oh Billy, you better, you better, you better run for your life
Now Billy, Billy don’t you lose my number
Cos you’re not anywhere
That I can find you, oh
Now Billy, Billy don’t you lose my number
Cos you’re not anywhere that I can find you, oh
They came at night leaving fear behind
Shadows were on the ground
Nobody knew where to find him
No evidence was found
“I’m never coming back”
They heard him cry
And I believe him
He never meant to do anything wrong
It’s gonna get worse if he waits too long
Now Billy, Billy don’t you lose my number
Cos you’re not anywhere
That I can find you, oh
Now Billy, Billy don’t you lose my number
Cos you’re not anywhere that I can find you, oh
So it’s been evident
that Ol Malmberg done tripped and fell down a Philhole.
What you may not know
is that my brain has decided to change the line in this 1983 Genesis hit that goes “can’t feel a thing from my head down to my toes” to “can’t feel a thing from my head down tomatoes” as if Phil was reading from the fabled clever kitchen apron and my experience has been all the richer for it.
Happy Phil Phridays to everyone!
And if you keep it in your ❤, every day can be Phil Phriday!
