Y’all.
So I wrote this workshop over the past few days based on this feeling that we don’t have big enough words.
I wanted to encourage the kids to make their own words when we didn’t give them big enough ones to describe life.
We learned about who Merriam and Webster were and what etymology is, how words come to be from different languages, that we should always respect people who are learning English cause they have more words than us, onomatopoeias, and then we made a bunch of new words with new definitions, and then we did some deep breathing because that’s how you allow the words to come to you.
Something we talked about today was that the Greeks have seven different words for love. And Merriam and Webster were white Europeans who only used Latin and European roots for their words.
I have not felt this level of joy and alignment with my highest purpose in months.
The kids are alright. In fact they better than we are.
Thank you 916 Ink. 💜
Also. None of them knew what a Laureate was so I told them it meant that I can stack marshmallows higher than any other poet in the city.
Hit me if you wanna book me to teach marshmallow stacking to your class or group.
