be a good ‘white’ ally

I am so tired of people of European descent and some groups of Caucasian people talking about other minority and ethnic groups issues like it is their own.

Be supportive and not dictate to others what their issues are. So you come off as ignorant.

And it’s everyone. And I am just tired of it. Everyday it’s something. Or someone telling me I am ‘white passing’ even though clearly I am Hispanic.

And my head is going to explode.

You know how to be a good ‘white’ ally?

Think of yourself as the husband pushing a shopping cart. You didn’t choose the shopping list and you’re not choosing the groceries. Your job is to follow behind your spouse as they pick out what is needed for the household. You trust they will make all the right decisions and guide you correctly throughout the store. Every now and then throw them a suggestion to purchase a cheaper item, maybe even ask to buy a snack for yourself. It may not be the healthiest snack, but hey, it’s a compromise. But under no circumstances is it your place to create the shopping list or to conduct the shop, because you suck at it, and will most likely just purchase a bag of Doritos, maybe a few apples, and the wrong milk.

So be the shopping cart, not the shopper. Support and stop horribly guiding.
