balancing the fall

When
you’ve
been

       on
       the
       cusp
                            of falling for so long

you take a look
at all the things that al­ter your bal­ance.

I’ve been hold­ing to these writ­ten sto­ries and let­ters
as if keep­ing them down on pa­per re­al­ly trans­ferred them into some­thing.

You look out­ward­ly
and you see the carved rock walls
that will cut you

if

you

fall

and all those who you wor­ry

that will read these words

will

be the wind

to

send you hurl­ing down.

But I promise you, you don’t have that pow­er.

You are not the wind that will pro­pel me down.

Rather the force I will break through to make it to oth­er side.

I’ve been hang­ing in a bal­ance.

I have been danc­ing a tight rope dance.

And as I make this move­ment it will swing in cen­ter.

My foot will cas­cade up in har­mo­ny of mo­tion land­ing ef­fort­less­ly

as the next step with the oth­er foot to fol­low.
