The viral last place breakdancer is a lecturer at Sydney’s Macquarie University with a PhD with her thesis focusing on the intersection of gender and Sydney’s breaking culture. That’s dope.
She has studied and is highly educated, recognized formally by the establishment, and teaches others. Also dope.
AND. (Respectfully, I mean, sis made the Olympics) SHE’S. WACK.
Ever heard of “those who can’t do, teach?”
This is that.
It’s the reason we’ve got people teaching and leading poetry programs that can’t bring a page to life or spit a verse and give you chills. And they’re the biggest reason people don’t like or relate to poetry.
Academia can’t certify or legitimize movements of the people. They don’t have that power, only that much ego.
Culture and craft are best studied on the street corner not the classroom.
