I had brought my contact juggling ball along with me on the train – and I saw some kids squabbling and their parents looking tired.
Silently, I took out my ball and without meeting their eyes I started some practicing. But instead of focusing on difficult tricks I approached it very clownishly.
Such as – oh, this person is trying to balance a ball on their arm while they grab the upper pole for balance, they look silly when falling and every time the door closed I would put it away and look bashful.
It was interesting how immediately a patter developed and how much fun it was, trying to only look at them when they looked away.
In the end, as I was getting off, I locked eyes with the young girl and we smiled at each other. It was a beautifully human experience that reminds me how not alone I am in this life and that not all conversations must be verbal.
