When you left,
not just from me,
but from yourself too,
I felt this massive hole
inside of my soul.
Like some amateur chef
sawed me in half
and scooped out the remnants
of the best parts of me.
Leaving the rest
mangled,
cold,
exposed.
To be found by the unfortunate,
by the desperate soul
searching for substance
in the alley out back
I woke up one day
and I realized
the side of the bed
I treated like a graveyard
was also mine
In that moment,
I also realized
that planting pretty flowers
would only make it habitable
if the soil was rich enough
to support new life
