If I could scream this from the rooftops and reach you, I would do it in a heartbeat.
I would tell you that you have it all backwards – that you don’t have to prove your worth to a soul other that than yours, the world should be proud to have you.
There is so much that I could tell you. Sometimes the words spill out and I have to put it in a poem, other times the words slip themselves under my tongue – there but just out of reach.
I just want to say thank you. Thank you for being brave, selfless, and strong when you feel like you can’t be anything at all. Thank you for choosing to stay.
It’s #nationalsuicidepreventionweek
I just want to remind everyone how difficult it is to seek help for yourself, no matter how big your safety net is to fall into.
Please
take a minute
to stop,
to breathe
Give yourself
a moment
to feel okay,
to feel alive
I promise you
that this pain,
this e m p t i n e s s
it will come
but it will
also go
You may wake
one day
with a hurricane
of a heartbeat
And you may
carry yourself
through that day
with seashells
in your toes,
salt on your tongue
But if you
just keep walking
You’ll get the chance
to feel the seashells
turn to sand,
listen to the wind,
to see the sun set
And it may not be
the most beautiful beach
you have ever seen
or the purest moment
you can remember
But there is
so much beauty
in the way
that you
got your feet
to travel there
You,
my love,
have so much
strength inside
of your palms
I just need you
to feel it yourself
But first,
I need you
to stop squeezing
your first every time
you can’t remember
how to b r e a t h e
One day
you will realize
your ability
to survive
is only
the beginning
I promise you
my love,
you can learn
what it’s like
to want to live
