The fun­ny thing about long-tail trends is that they tend to be in­flu­enced by things that aren’t ini­tial­ly suc­cess­ful. But those things reach the kind of taste mak­ing cool peo­ple that make the de­ci­sions that then cas­cade down through the cul­ture.

Two per­fect ex­am­ples: Al­most Fa­mous (2000) and Wet Hot Amer­i­can Sum­mer (2001). Two films that came out with­in a year of each oth­er and did like *no* busi­ness, but their in­flu­ence draped longer over the next decade plus.

Any­way, that’s why everyone’s do­ing hero­in now.

Also,

It’s telling that Far Left pu­ri­ty tests don’t have much of a place for the in­ter­ests of women or Gay peo­ple or PoC or any num­ber of oth­er vul­ner­a­ble class­es.

I might posit that it has to do with so many pu­ri­ty-seek­ing Far Left types be­ing straight white bros but to do so caus­es tons of straight white bros to loud­ly protest that that’s not the case so I guess that’s that, huh.

Lo­cal­ly though,

I think with dis­ci­pline and a lit­tle el­bow grease we could be back on top next year.
