the least of resistance

To me, the peo­ple re­fus­ing to stand up to Trump are worse than Trump. 

Whether it’s pure greed, en­ti­tled ap­a­thy, the fear of ret­ri­bu­tion (and with it le­gal bills and po­ten­tial­ly mon­e­tary and oth­er penal­ties, the strongest of ar­gu­ments, but still pret­ty weak), tak­ing the path of least re­sis­tance or some­thing else … it’s bad and it has far reach­ing and pos­si­bly per­ma­nent or at least long term consequences. 

Al­most every le­gal ex­pert thought the law­suits could be won by the net­works or companies. 

The cav­ing just to get some merg­er through seems pret­ty, ac­tu­al­ly, I’m not sure what the right term is to use here, but it’s bad. 

A friend of mine once said it’s easy to give away with isn’t yours, and I’m sure there was a lot of mon­ey at stake and I’m talk­ing like mul­ti-gen­er­a­tional sums of mon­ey on the ta­ble. But noth­ing is free. 

For ac­tion there’s a reaction.

And the hypocrisy is just what they have for break­fast every morn­ing, so it’s not even worth point­ing out anymore. 

If you’re with them or if they like you, you can lit­er­al­ly do al­most any­thing, prob­a­bly kill some­one too. 

If you’re against them or they de­cid­ed you’re against them or they de­cide they don’t like you, you could sneeze and that could be a fed­er­al offense. 

We are and have been for a long time in this coun­try lack­ing ac­tu­al lead­er­ship, peo­ple with stan­dards and prin­ci­ples and things they will stand up for, things they will not do be­cause they won’t cross a cer­tain line.

Again, let’s hope we hit rock bot­tom soon and we come back up with a lit­tle more hu­mil­i­ty and a lit­tle more tak­ing the long view and con­sid­er­ing how our ac­tions af­fect every­one, not just you or me at that par­tic­u­lar moment.
