… or funnier.
My absolute idol
since I first heard him sing on his Live at Carnegie Hall album in 1965 at the Chaing Mai consul’s home while keeping track of military PX records.
I adored him,
I admired him,
I mimicked him when I sang all his songs I knew by heart.
When I was young tan and strong I would tie my shirts calypso style across my flat stomach to be like him.
I wanted to be him.
I sang Jamaican Farewell to my daughter every night while I danced her to sleep.
As long as there are bananas he will never truly be gone.
