One time 20 years ago,

a dude I worked with found out I liked Ra­dio­head
so he was like

“you should check out Jim­my Eat World”

even though that is a stu­pid thing to think
let alone say out loud to a per­son
and then he gave me a bunch of their mu­sic on com­pact disc

and I prayed for an aneurysm

to give me a way to ex­tri­cate my­self from the sit­u­a­tion
but Jah does not work that way
so I had to just sit there groovin’ on it.

They make Semi­son­ic sound like Slay­er by com­par­i­son.

But in the mu­si­cal waste­land of the ear­ly aughts
I’m sure to many they seemed like a great least worst op­tion.

Was a dark time.
