zoonoses has long been one of my favorite words.
While it makes me think of cute animal noses, they are actually quite terrifying diseases which I am reminded of once again as the coronavirus spreads.
The virus is believed to have originated late last year in the central Chinese city of Wuhan in a market that was illegally selling wildlife, having been transmitted from the animals to humans.
Too bad it doesn’t just kill the traffickers, but I stopped believing in karma, or what goes around comes around, or that cheaters never prosper a long time ago.
We bemoan and try to rationalize and explain away why bad things happen to good people, and why good things happen to bad people, but nothing other than an indifferent universe(s) really explains it, with a different type of cause and effect than karma.
I realized in high school that our species is destroying the earth’s ecology and that we need to be spat out by nature like a choking cat needs to rid itself of a hairball.
We, as a species, are unable or unwilling to self-regulate and prevent it.
I do curse the wild animal trade and the current wave of animal extinction as an example of our ignorance, avarice and greed.
But personally I am a happy and optimistic person in the present moment: Be here now. Zen incorporated … LOL … without the trappings of reincarnation or karma or religion.
The universe will continue to evolve and homo sapiens will disappear just like the dinosaurs did. Sad that we are rushing it along though.
And zoonoses is a cool word.
