I was buying too many 4 dollar summer-weather tops at a thrift store today.
All the while someone was playing intricate and highly-skilled classical piano pieces on a completely crappyass standup piano.
Still,
the music was beautiful,
romantic,
stirring.
I went to see who it was and it was a black man about my age who looked like he was absolutely starving to death,
clearly homeless.
I was struck,
and still am today,
by how immediate it would be for so many (all of us?) to dismiss him utterly when he had more talent and skill than probably everybody there combined.
Anyway, thank you, Stranger.
I can still hear your music in my head and it’s beautiful.
