Flomm is inspired by early modern art the way the Bauhaus band was inspired by the Bauhaus and German Expressionism evolved into post-punk goth.
And Bauhaus lead Peter Murphy will be hitting us up locally next weekend (deets below).
Murphy is touring acoustically ‘stripped’ and illustrator (and flommist) Galine Tumasyan crafted the local gigposter:
Here’s a short conversation I had with Galine about the minimal broadside:

MEHALLO Where did your concept start? With Bauhaus or his post-Bauhaus work?
galine
No matter how his music changes, Peter Murphy has a very timeless aesthetic that always makes me think of straight lines, black and white and twisted figurative work – somewhat in the style of Egon Schiele. If you think about it, Peter Murphy IS an Egon Schiele construct!
MEHALLO When developing an illustration, how do you start? What’s your process?
galine
I try to get to the bottom of the subject matter. Learn a few things, make a list and think of the imagery that goes with this list. Like a mindmap, of sorts.

MEHALLO How did you get into illustration?
galine
I always been painting and drawing because of my family. Art is sort of a family tradition – however, what appealed to me about illustration is the problem-solving aspect. Illustration is an opportunity to collaborate and interpret the ideas of others, while telling a story that is either theirs or my own.
MEHALLO You work has shades of J.C. Leyendecker throughout. How do you see yourself historically placed?
galine
I’m glad you have mentioned Leyendecker, he is one of my main classical influences! Historically, I’m intrigued by the 1960s MOD movement; advertising-inspired pop art.
MEHALLO Last we talked, you were in a psychedelic band. How does this experience influence your work?
galine
I have a new band now called Sea Blite. The focus is much different. I’ve been around 60s music for so long, now it’s time to try something else – living in the real MODern philosophy of going forward and trying new things. This band is very inspiring – the imagery we use is mainly pop-art and what was once called bonehead design back in the 1980s, so both go hand in hand and inspire each other.
For mor of Galine’s work, here’s website, twitter, instagram, facebook, and her shop.
Peter Murphy plays locally – Sacramento, California, Sunday 4 December 2016 at Harlow’s. His tour schedule can be found here.
