Do you want to see the world’s first multi-coloured and animated font?
Actually, three notes:
1.
The game was never published.
2.
It’s the first that I know of, not definite.
3.
It’s reproduced as SVG OTF, and I can not control each letter’s animation timing, which is why it appears to be out of sync.
Arcade Game Typography: The Art of Pixel Type, my first book, is now available!
Recommended for designers, gamers, anyone who wants something nice to look at in their toilet, or anyone who complains 1000 UPM is not high enough for type design.
Thanks to Thames & Hudson for publishing, Darren Wall for organising everything, and Leo Field for the graphic design!
Your very own copy can be snagged here and a bunch of other places.
I will be talking more about all of this – and updating an obscure design of typographer Paul Renner (1878–1956) – on RADíO FLoMM this season.
But right now, I’m having fun designing this 4‑pixel x‑height using my Pixel Pen tool (available via Glyphs’ Plugin Manager)
