“The world is divided now into people that believe in society – and people that don’t, who believe in something more like tribalism, Darwinism, authoritarianism, hate, violence, and rage. That they should be supreme, above all others, that they are the center of the world, that nobody else and nothing else matters but them and their gratification. There is a kind of deep social nihilism at work in the world today – a kind of bitter disbelief that any kind of ‘we’ exists. And from this hostility, this enmity, comes a surging aggression, bitterness, rage, animus – that’s tearing the world apart today, knocking back to turbo-charged regress. And it is this force at work in Britain and America’s responses to Coronavirus.”
—Umair Haque, How Freedom Turned Sociopathic in America
Part of my daily sadness lies in the fact that sociopaths and their dangerous behaviors are being amplified by a sociopath/narcissistic President.
The underlying root of this ugliness stems from the fact that we have never fully faced, or to that end healed the legacies of a systematic sociopathic/racist foundation that this country was built upon.
Therefore, we can be disgusted and try to turn our faces away in some type of shame but none of us with any connection to our sordid collective history should be surprised in anyway of what we are witnessing now.
Any White person who claims to be anti-oppression should be absolutely up in arms and using the above (and below) understanding to finally facilitate the shifts in our nation that we so desperately need:
White folks: You need to take responsibility for Your collective Karens and Michaels.
We won’t and can’t do the job that You need to be doing right now – You need to collectively collect Your siblings, NOW!
