there are two jason malmbergs

One is a jazz musician.

One is a designer. Me.

We found each other on Instagram a few years ago, equally surprised that another Jason Malmberg existed. He told me about his band, This House Has Lions, and I offered to design their record.

That was 2021.

Now the Lions are back with album number two: CONSTRUCTIVE COURSE, another collection of jazz takes on classic punk songs, and I got to design the record again.

This time around I built the package around a pair of roaring stone lions, pushed through a loud, distressed palette of cyan, orange, red and black, with the whole thing treated somewhere between an artifact, an old record sleeve and something that has been photocopied one too many times.

I also designed and animated the promo for the release.

Very happy to finally be able to share this one.

Music by This House Has Lions.

Design + animation by the other Jason Malmberg.

Stay the course.
