I woke up ear­ly and
Tried to join some surfer friends
Not to surf but to
Swim the wa­ter cold
I wore a wet suit
For the first time

They were ea­ger
The waves were waves
But small and they
Want­ed maybe to
See if they looked
Big­ger clos­er up

I was left on the
Beach and felt fun­ny
In my suit
It was made for a man
And had been on a
Man, maybe many­man’s
Bod­ies be­fore and I
Not be­ing one
Had fun­ny bulges
Here and there

I got in the wa­ter
And was hit by
a few waves
be­ing so long away
from the wave ex­pe­ri­ence
Ner­vous in my thin­ness
Not know whether
To go un­der or over
I let a cou­ple hit me
In the face
In the nose
In my every­where
Salty
I went un­der
Scared
I went un­der
Sil­ly
Un­der

You have to take pride
in what you do
Ear­ly in the morn­ing
Re­treat, I did
From the wa­ter
I ran to find it
I tried to find it
But I did­n’t stretch first
And pulled two mus­cles
