But we’re just over­re­act­ing right?

A plea to my white friends that don’t get what the big deal is:

42 years. 8 pres­i­dents. Nev­er have I seen a pres­i­dent-elect ar­rive to so many re­ports of how scared (ter­ri­fied re­al­ly) peo­ple are about it. Or to be hon­est, any.

No one can stop you from say­ing “it won’t be that bad, give him a chance, stop freak­ing out” but I strong­ly urge you to lis­ten, re­al­ly lis­ten to your non-white, non-straight friends right now. This ter­ror is real and it is ab­solute­ly found­ed in promis­es and ac­tion from the in­com­ing ad­min­is­tra­tion.

Can you at least do that? I don’t mean the per­son you work with that vot­ed Clin­ton. I mean your PoC friends. Gay ones. Trans ones. Mus­lims. Mex­i­cans. Dis­abled. The el­der­ly fac­ing Medicare cuts. Sur­vivors of sex­u­al as­sault. If you don’t have any friends that fit that cri­te­ria we can arrange a dis­cus­sion. Leave com­ments be­low.

At risk of sound­ing self pro­mot­ing, peo­ple need strength and sol­i­dar­i­ty and I still have room on my Face­book friends list and so do a lot of my friends. We’ve got a great team here and I am hap­py to grow it or just of­fer shel­ter in it.

I’ve seen too many peace sym­bols on hate­ful ass­holes that don’t think it’s any­thing but a fash­ion icon over the years to know that just be­ing nice to each oth­er isn’t a so­lu­tion here.
