Dear Sacra­men­to,

In case you haven’t no­ticed we’re hav­ing an­oth­er huge wave of in­cred­i­ble artists leav­ing the city.

Can we PLEASE fig­ure out how to make it sus­tain­able to cre­ate here? The politi­cos love us­ing the arts as a talk­ing point and ex­am­ple of what makes our city great but cre­atives can’t af­ford to live in the city we bring life to.

Two of my clos­est po­ets and one of my fa­vorite show pro­duc­ers in the last cou­ple months. AND I talked to three oth­er BIG cre­ative forces out here last night who are ei­ther cur­rent­ly mov­ing or look­ing to.

Damn, I miss my friends.

Philadel­phia. The bay. LA. New Or­leans. Cincin­nati. Lon­don. All look­ing prettttttttttt­ty good right now …

And ima take every­one with me when I leave.

I’m host­ing and will be rock­ing a few things with Sacra­men­to Po­et­ry His­to­ri­an Patrick Grizzell and Grand­moth­er Po­et­ry, ¹⁄₂ of the city’s first Poet Lau­re­ates, the leg­endary Vi­o­la Spencer. Event will also be broad­cast­ed. Also, they ran my ‘I love you’ in the pa­per: The past, present, and fu­ture of Sacra­men­to Po­et­ry Day.
