I’m comforting myself with thoughts of you. I know, and you know, so so so many strong, worthy, thoughtful, compassionate, flexible, capable, awake, empathetic, ingenious and powerful people.
I’m going to welcome this test of all I believe in.
I’m going to stand up for all I believe in, my own well-being included.
But my personal strength comes from you, as it always has: friends, family, mentors, colleagues, students, and miraculous, beautiful strangers.
I’m going to let Walt finish for me:
America
WALT WHITMAN
Centre of equal daughters, equal sons,
All, all alike endear’d, grown, ungrown, young or old,
Strong, ample, fair, enduring, capable, rich,
Perennial with the Earth, with Freedom, Law and Love,
A grand, sane, towering, seated Mother,
Chair’d in the adamant of Time.
Bless us all as we go forward. We, truly, are not alone.
And
somebody should get Melania some absinthe.
