flomm does some duchamp – in lumber

In 1913, a massive exhibit of avant-garde pieces, the International Exhibition of Modern Art (known today as The Armory Show), was held at the National Guard 69th Regiment Armory in New York …

The show included Nude Descending a Staircase, No. 2 in its stateside debut, and critics and crowds accustomed to more realistic and naturalistic forms were quick to mock it as a symbol of all that was ridiculous about modern European art … The New York Times wryly re-named it ‘Explosion in a Shingle Factory.’”

I kept staring at the staircase. It was just there.

At a few events.

At CLARA.
The new, repurposed venue in Sacramento for ART and COMMUNITY and back in JUNE, it was one of our locations for FLOMM 423 RED.

We had to do it. It called to us, said it had to happen.

This is Marcel Duchamp’s Nude Descending a Staircase n°2, 1913:

the reviews are finally in!

Why did you do that?

So that’s what that was.

You guys are stupid.

Looked like a pile of lumber to me.

I ‘saw’ that.

I should have hit you with one of the boards.

FLOMM finally TAKES THE STAIRS!

You know, I’ve got friends in high places *wink wink*

If the magnolias are full of shit, you really shouldn’t eat them. Same thing with hamburgers.
