The worst part of the Shane Dawson writing a whole statement about how he didn’t fuck a cat business is people pretending they didn’t know who he was until a couple days ago.
Like, I get a person here or there not knowing him, especially once you get into groups older than millennials nobody should know him. I also expect people that go outside and make a positive contribution to society to not know who he is.
But, I expect everyone who spends all day on Twitter and/or in shitpost groups to know exactly who he is. He was one of the top YouTubers from early on, he’s been a trendsetter on the platform for a literal decade, and he’s spent the last year making massively promoted documentaries about controversial internet figures.
Suddenly DOZENS of people my age and younger are like “uhhh who’s this??”
And it’s a weird lie that entirely breaks down into two camps:
1)
they want to act like this entire thing ISN’T completely on brand for him, especially early edge lord Dawson, in order to accuse him of beastiality and
2)
they don’t want to be called out for the fact that they care about him not engaging in beastiality more than they ever cared about him engaging in blatant racism.
Filed under opinions I only hold this strongly because it’s too early and I’m dying for some more fucking sleep but my body declines.
