4 weeks ago I released the Black Bill of Rights.
When you work on something for so long (2 years) and then finally get the chance to speak about it out loud, it’s truly surreal. The funny thing is, the more that I talk about it, the more that I understand the importance of this concept.
Not because it’s mine but because it’s OURS!
The Black Bill of Rights is a framework that not only urges Black people to dream and envision what a world would look like outside of the construct of White Supremacy but it gives us a viable roadmap to actually make this vision and plan a reality.
How will we do this? We are still in the process of building out the website to match the intentions of the Framework. The website will provide every Black community in our nation with a roadmap. It is designed to act as a hub for communities to share legislation and policy that has been passed, or programs that exist so we can learn from one another – and support each other.
The website will also support the growing network of people who understand how important it is that this nation heals the wounds of the cruel legacy of racism.
We have started this journey with policing because this is the #1 concern of Black people in America but in its complete form, the website will offer the resources that will serve as a template to help guide Black communities to build authentically sound infrastructures on a local level that will keep them safe and give them the right to be an active participant in their governing.
From there, we direct our attention to every OTHER sector that affects Black Americans, from real estate to education – personal finance to health care. We will create the world we want and need, 1 by 1 – together.
In the meantime …
I will continue to seek out outlets, write op-eds, create content, build petitions, sit on panels, etc. to explain why the Black Bill of Rights needs to be a part of the national conversation.
If what you are reading resonates with you, I humbly ask that you join me in amplifying this message. If you have access to media, (podcasts, online/ hardcopy magazine,) please reach out to me.
Are you a part of a group that is working to build anti-racists infrastructures in your community? Not you, but you know folks in your network? I want to hear from you! Let’s collaborate/partner and start building the foundation that will support this work across the nation. Send folks to our website at activismarticulated.com or connect with me through FLOMM.
